Malaysia Airlines Flight Goes Missing En Route to China With Plane Carrying 239 People

The Malaysia airline said in a statement that they have lost contact with a plane carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737 passenger plane prepares to take off at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in November 2012

Flight MH370 lost contact with the Subang air traffic control at 2:40 a.m. Saturday (18:40 GMT Friday). The flight was operated on the Boeing 777-200 aircraft. It departed Kuala Lumpur at 12:41 a.m. Saturday (16:41 GMT Friday) and was expected to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m. Saturday (22:30 GMT Friday).

China's Xinhua state news agency said it was lost in airspace controlled by Vietnam. The aircraft did not enter airspace controlled by China and did not make contact with Chinese controllers, the agency added.  Malaysia Airlines has informed that they will be holding a press conference later on Saturday.

The airline said it was working with the authorities who activated their search and rescue team to locate the aircraft. The flight was carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members, the airline said.

# This is indeed a breaking news. There has been speculation that the airline landed at Nanning but MAS denied such statement.  My thoughts and prayer with the affected passengers, crew and their family members.
