Japan Travel Blog: Day 1 In Sapporo

Last family trip we went to Japan for a holiday. It was a memorable trip for all of us and hopefully we will go back again. We went in the month of October (last year) and flew in via Thai Airway. We arrived at the New Chitose airport slightly after 9am. The place was pretty quiet and empty when walking towards the train station.

We took the lift down to the train station located on B1. Bought our train ticket over the counter to Sapporo Station. If you're unsure which track to board, just ask the staff at the counter and they will direct you to the correct train.

When we arrived at Sapporo Grand Hotel, it was only 10am and it was still early to check-in. Tired from the journey, we dragged our tired body to the mall nearby and have our first Japanese meal. Ordered a bowl of ramen and gyozo to share.

We took a stroll after our meal and came across a big crowd outside a building, which turned out to be the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building.

A bit of info on 'The Former Hokkaido Government Office Building'.

There were some kind of food fair so we walk around to take a look.

Came across this cute and bright vehicle that caught our attention. We went to take a look and found that they were selling croquette with different types of filling. We tried the pumpkin flavour and it taste so good.

Walked back to the hotel but it was only slightly after 12pm. Still early to check-in we head down to Starbucks at the corner of the hotel for a well needed coffee. Spent some time here since wifi was available and have some shut eye while waiting.

When we finally check-in the room, we collapsed on the bed and slept.
We were dead tired since neither of us slept on the plane.

We woke up to find that the sun had set. Sunset was early (by 6pm) so we got ready to head out for dinner.

We wanted to look for food outside but found the weather to be too cold so we ended up having dinner in the hotel (we only found out the next day that we can actually use the underground walkway to shopping mall. We were too tired to explore at the time)

The restaurant we went was a Japanese restaurant. The place looks posh and we figured that it's going to be pricey. >.<

Effort was put into decoration and it's like an art piece when presented to us. Portion wise was a bit too small since we ordered each dish to share. We realised that each dish is for one person...except for the hot pot which we ordered for 3 .

It was pretty pricey after converting back to our own currency, which by the way we can have 5 meals outside for the 3 of us (lesson learnt!). Our first and our last time dinning in hotel.

After dinner we walked to 7-Eleven nearby to buy fruits and drinks.

Bought this drink throughout this trip. Super yummy and taste similar to yogurt drink. Can get it back home but cheaper to get this in Japan :)

And that wraps up my first day in Sapporo.
