A while back buddy and I head down to SS2 for brunch at Smoking Hog. Looks like its becoming a weekly treat for us to try out new places for good food.
Locating the entrance for Smoking Hog was a bit tricky on our first visit since there wasn't any signboard to indicate their existence, apart from knowing that it's above Professor.
Walking in to the side door we were able to see the small banner and huge screen next to the lift, indicating that we're at the right place.
Taking the lift to the 3rd floor, I was in awe when the lift door opens up to reveal a dark and dim lighting in the restaurant. You disregard the hour of the day cause everything is concealed with blinds. With the place dim, I feel as if I'm going for an underground private meeting, like the scenes from the movie 'The Godfather'. *Yeah, too much of imagination in my head.
No pictures on the menu so we weren't sure what to order at the beginning. After all, there are various dishes to choose from their menu.
Fortunately pictures were available on their iPad.
Their Beer & Bacon Mancakes looks interesting.
Nutella Latte (RM15). Nothing is better than drinking a cup of latte to kick start your day. Nice and smooth Nutella drink.
Mushroom Bacon Soup (RM16), a creamy rich mushroom soup with smoked bacon bits. The soup has a thick texture from the ingredients, with plenty of mushroom flavour to it. I personally find it a bit too much for my liking since I prefer moderate amount of water in the soup. Likewise, buddy loves it and drank up every spoonful of it.
Bacones (RM27). Love the presentation but find a bit pricey with RM13.50 for each cone.
But then again, efforts were put into it to ensure the crispiness of the bacon.
It was indeed yummy.
Ordered Caesar Salad (RM22) to boost our green intake....well, just a bit. Fresh lettuce tossed with bacon bits, ikan bilis and topped with a poached egg. Yummylicious.
Eggs Benedict (RM25). Poached Eggs served on Engish muffins with grilled tomatoes and smoked bacon, garden salad and Hollandaise sauce. Perfect!
All the dishes we ordered, including buddy's healthy juice drink 'Detox' (RM16). The bill was RM133.10 after including 10% service charge. A bit steep on the pricing I must say.
My overall thought about this place that pricing wise is a bit steep, compared to other restaurants or cafes we go for our brunch. Its less likely for us to revisit, unless for special occasion or a get together with buddies. However, the food is incredibly good, with details put into presentation.
I would not recommend to be seated near the bar counter, which is the first table you see when you walked in. I find there's less privacy since service crew will be standing quite close to your table, which I find it a bit too close for comfort. However, their service is excellent though.
