"Lucky Bag" or known as "Fukubukuro" is a Japanese New Year custom in which merchants make grab bags filled with unknown random contents and sell them for a substantial discount, usually 50% or more off the list price of the items contained within. The low prices are usually done to attract customers to shop at that store during the new year. The term is formed from Japanese fuku (福 which means "good fortune" ) and fukuro (袋, meaning "bag").
In Japan, multi-national furniture retailing giant IKEA is no exception.
IKEA offers 2 of their lucky bags: "Kitchen Goods Lucky Bag" and "Food Lucky Bag".
*Why Malaysia Don't Have Lucky Bag?!?!*
The Kitchen Goods Lucky Bag includes the following items for 2,000 yen (approximately RM72), which includes special coupon (1,000 yen off for purchases over 10,000 yen made on January 2), chopping board, set of 3 small containers, plastic container, set of 4 spice jars, 5 piece cookie cutter set, tray, jar with lid, and 2 set of paper napkins.
Next is the Food Lucky Bag (2,016 yen -approximately RM73).
The content in the bag includes Hot Dog buns, sausages, fried onions (100 grams), double chocolate crisps (600 grams), Blueberry and Raspberry smoothie x 3 packs, and Apple and Strawberry smoothie x 3 packs.
I would love to get my hand on one of these lucky bag if I ever visit Japan. For now, I can only look through the photos videos of lucky buyers showing off their purchase. However, one have to keep in mind that there is chance that the content in the bag maybe something that you want or don't need. I guess I have to wait and see if I will ever get my hand on these lucky bag in the future. *finger cross*
