Faith's Blog: Stop-Over At Ipoh Town

When you only have one hour to spare in Ipoh, there are only two things you can do...buying things that are related to food and eat (or drink). After all, Ipoh is no doubt famous for its food and white coffee.

Before heading back to KL, we stop over at Weng Seng Coffee Shop 永城茶餐室 which is at Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar. A stall by the name 鸿记饼家 Hong Kee Confectionery sells wonderfully baked egg tart which is supposedly well known by the locals. This stall was recommended by 'Ipoh gal' who swears that this place sells the best egg tart. She bought 40 pieces herself fo her family who are all residing in KL.

Egg tart was freshly baked so it was hot and fresh out from the oven. I have to agree with her, it's really good! They make the best egg tarts that I've ever tasted and I regretted for not buying more Emoji This place is defiantly a must stop over for their delicious egg tarts!

Next stop is to buy salted chicken. There're a number of shops selling this but most of my ipoh friends recommended to come here.

You don't need to get out from the vehicle and they will bring the ready packed chicken to you. Parking here is generally difficult.

The verdict? The portion is not big, but adequate for sharing among 2 or 3 people. A bit salty for me but then again it's salted chicken. Best to eat with rice rather than on its own (my personal preference).

Third stop over is at Restaurant Ipoh Kong Heng.

Recommended to go early before the lunch crowds.
We were there around 11am so the place was quite empty.

Hor fun here is definitely a lot better than most of the hor fun I've tried in KL. Popiah was good too, wrapped with generous filling and the skin wasn't soggy.

Tried their home made egg custard. Egg custard taste heavenly and well made. It's creamy and ultra-smooth in texture.

Finally our last stop is to get some Ipoh Coffee Powder from a traditional old kopitiam at Kadai Kopi Sin Yoon Loong. Recommended by Ipoh gal to buy their coffee powder here. The place was packed with customers who were there for food and perhaps a good cup of white coffee. I just head over the counter to get a few packets of coffee powder.

Would love to explore more but we have to leave after a short hour in Ipoh. Seriously, Ipoh is defiantly a food haven here. Will set another date to come back again Emoji
